Yes. Fortified soy drink, calcium-set tofu, canned sardines or salmon with bones, kale and other labelled fortified foods can add up to the target. Check labels because calcium content varies substantially by product.
Should I take calcium with food?
Take calcium carbonate with food because stomach acid improves its absorption. Calcium citrate can be taken with or without food, although dividing larger daily supplemental amounts still makes sense (NIH ODS calcium fact sheet).
Is calcium citrate better than calcium carbonate?
Not for everyone. Citrate is less acid-dependent and often better tolerated, while carbonate provides more elemental calcium per tablet and may cost less; your food timing, medicines, tolerance and required dose determine the better fit.
Should I split a 1,000 mg calcium supplement?
If 1,000 mg of supplemental calcium is truly needed, dividing it is generally more efficient because absorption is highest at doses of 500 mg or less. First confirm that 1,000 mg is the elemental amount you need after counting food.

Calcium planning should end with a number you can explain. Start with the age-based target, estimate what your usual food provides, and fill only the remaining gap. If you use a supplement, read the elemental calcium amount, match citrate or carbonate to your circumstances, and divide supplemental amounts above 500 mg rather than treating 500 mg as an absorption cliff.
The safety evidence calls for balance. Ordinary intakes within the UL have not been shown convincingly to cause cardiovascular harm in generally healthy adults, but unnecessary high supplemental exposure offers no proven advantage. Kidney-stone findings are mixed and deserve individual review when risk is already present. K2 has an interesting mechanism, not a proven routine outcome benefit.
If your concern is a fracture, low bone density, an abnormal calcium result, kidney disease or significant symptoms, move beyond supplement shopping. Those questions need the appropriate diagnostic and treatment pathway.
