Vitamins and Minerals for Women in Saudi Arabia: An Evidence-Based Guide

The short answer: which nutrients matter most?

For most women, the right starting point is a varied diet, not a shelf of supplements. The nutrients that most often need life-stage or risk-based attention are vitamin D, iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B12, folate and omega-3 fats. They do different jobs, have different tests, and should not be bundled into one diagnosis.

A useful sequence is to meet ordinary dietary needs, identify any preventive indication, recognise genuine deficiency risks, test only when a result can guide care, and treat the cause rather than only the number. For example, low iron can reflect menstrual or gastrointestinal blood loss, while low B12 may follow autoimmune gastritis, medicine use or surgery.

If you are well, eat a varied diet, are not pregnant or planning pregnancy, and have no relevant medical risk, you may not need any supplement. If a supplement is appropriate, the product and amount should answer a defined need.

How to use this guide

Start with your purpose

Ask one question before buying or testing anything: What decision will this information change? General nutrition calls for a diet review. Pregnancy planning calls for early folic acid and a medication review. Heavy menstrual bleeding, restrictive eating, previous gastrointestinal surgery, relevant medicines or an abnormal result may justify targeted assessment. Severe or progressive symptoms need medical care, not several new supplements.

Avoid the “one symptom, one deficiency” trap

Tiredness can occur with iron deficiency, B12 deficiency, sleep loss, thyroid disease, infection, depression, medication effects and many other conditions. Hair shedding can follow childbirth, illness, restrictive dieting, thyroid disease, scalp disorders or genetic hair loss. Cramps can relate to exercise, pregnancy, medicines, circulation or neurological problems. A symptom may justify assessment, but it does not identify the nutrient.

What RDA, AI and UL really mean

Nutrition labels and online advice use similar-looking numbers for very different purposes.

  • Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA): the average daily intake expected to meet the needs of 97 to 98 per cent of healthy people in a defined age and sex group.
  • Adequate Intake (AI): a target used when evidence is not strong enough to set an RDA.
  • Estimated Average Requirement (EAR): the intake estimated to meet the needs of half of healthy people in a group. It is mainly used to assess populations and plan diets.
  • Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL): the highest average daily intake unlikely to cause harm for most people. It is not a recommended dose and does not mean everyone can safely take that amount.

These definitions come from the dietary-reference framework summarised by the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements. They apply to generally healthy populations. Treatment of a confirmed deficiency can use different amounts for a limited period, but that is a clinical plan with monitoring.

Two details matter when you read the table below. First, an intake value normally includes food and supplements unless stated otherwise. Second, the magnesium UL applies only to magnesium from supplements and medicines, not magnesium naturally present in food (NIH ODS Magnesium).

Daily reference intakes for adult women

The table uses US Food and Nutrition Board reference values because the evidence map provides one consistent, source-linked set across the collection. They are nutritional benchmarks, not personalised prescriptions. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, age, medical conditions and local clinical guidance can change the practical plan.

The difference between micrograms and milligrams is large: 1 milligram equals 1,000 micrograms. Vitamin D labels may use both micrograms and international units; 1 microgram of vitamin D equals 40 IU (NIH ODS Vitamin D). Check the unit before comparing products.

A decision framework by life stage and situation

Adolescence and early adulthood

Food variety, menstrual history and restrictive eating patterns matter more than a generic “women's vitamin.” Adolescents with heavy periods, frequent dieting, low food access or a vegetarian or vegan pattern need individual attention to iron and B12 sources. Calcium needs are also higher from ages 14 to 18 than in later adulthood, at 1,300 mg daily in the referenced standard (NIH ODS Calcium).

Menstruating years

Menstrual blood loss changes the iron question. Women with heavy or prolonged periods, repeated blood donation, pregnancy, coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease or previous gastrointestinal surgery have a higher likelihood of iron depletion (NIH ODS Iron). The appropriate response is not automatic iron. It is a history, blood count and iron studies when indicated, followed by attention to the cause.

Planning pregnancy

Start before conception. The neural tube closes 26 to 28 days after fertilisation, often before pregnancy is recognised. The Saudi Ministry of Health advises 400 micrograms of folic acid daily before pregnancy and through week 12 for most women. The USPSTF recommends 400 to 800 micrograms daily for anyone planning or able to become pregnant, starting at least one month before conception.

Higher prescription folic-acid amounts are for defined higher-risk situations, such as a previous neural-tube-defect-affected pregnancy or certain medicines and medical conditions. The Saudi Ministry of Health lists epilepsy, diabetes and a previous child with a neural tube defect among situations in which 5 mg may be advised. Do not choose that amount without a clinician reviewing the indication, medicines and B12 risk.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Needs change, but “more” is still not the rule. In the reference set used here, pregnancy raises iron to 27 mg, folate to 600 mcg DFE and B12 to 2.6 mcg daily, while calcium remains 1,000 mg and vitamin D 600 IU for adults aged 19 to 50. These are intake standards, not instructions to assemble separate high-dose products.

A prenatal product may help meet defined needs, but doubling it with separate products can exceed some limits. Iron treatment, high-dose folic acid, vitamin D treatment and B12 injections are separate clinical decisions. The 2024 Endocrine Society guideline suggests against routine vitamin D blood testing during pregnancy in otherwise healthy people (Endocrine Society guideline).

For omega-3 intake, food guidance is practical. The US FDA and EPA advise pregnant and breastfeeding women to eat 8 to 12 ounces, or two to three servings, of lower-mercury seafood per week. Salmon, sardines, anchovies, shrimp and trout are among the listed “Best Choices,” while shark, swordfish, king mackerel and bigeye tuna are on the avoid list (FDA advice about eating fish).

Perimenopause and after menopause

Iron needs usually fall after menstrual bleeding stops, but a new iron-deficiency anaemia result after menopause deserves explanation rather than routine replacement. British Society of Gastroenterology guidance states that men and postmenopausal women with newly diagnosed iron-deficiency anaemia generally need gastrointestinal evaluation as appropriate to the individual context (BSG guideline).

Calcium needs rise to 1,200 mg daily from age 51 in the cited reference standard, and vitamin D rises to 800 IU after age 70. These targets support nutrition, but supplements are not a stand-alone osteoporosis assessment or treatment. Bone health also depends on weight-bearing activity, protein, smoking status, alcohol, falls, menopause timing, medicines and clinical fracture risk.

Vegetarian or vegan eating

A well-planned plant-based diet can be nutritionally adequate, but B12 needs an intentional source because it is naturally present mainly in animal foods. Fortified foods or a reliable supplement are often necessary. Plant iron is less bioavailable than heme iron; the NIH reference framework estimates that vegetarians need 1.8 times the standard iron intake because of lower absorption (NIH ODS Iron).

Calcium, vitamin D and omega-3 also need planning. Check fortified drink labels rather than assuming every brand contains the same amount. Algal oil can provide DHA for people who avoid fish, but product content varies and no universal EPA plus DHA RDA has been established.

After bariatric surgery or with malabsorption

This is not a routine supplement-shopping situation. Surgery affecting the stomach or small intestine, coeliac disease, Crohn's disease, chronic diarrhoea and pancreatic or liver disease can change absorption and test interpretation. B12 deficiency may follow gastric or terminal ileal surgery, while iron, folate, calcium, vitamin D and magnesium can also be affected.

NICE advises testing B12 when at least one symptom or sign is paired with at least one risk factor, and it identifies gastric surgery, terminal ileal resection, coeliac disease and several medicines among relevant risks (NICE NG239). Follow-up should be based on the specific operation, symptoms, diet and clinical protocol, not a generic “full panel.”

Long-term medicines or multiple supplements

Medicines can create risks in both directions. Metformin and acid-suppressing medicines can be associated with B12 deficiency. Long-term proton-pump inhibitor use can also contribute to low magnesium. Orlistat may reduce vitamin D absorption. Iron, calcium and magnesium can reduce the absorption of certain medicines when taken too close together.

Bring every product to an appointment, including powders, gummies, injections, herbal products and “beauty” supplements. Record the dose per serving and the number of servings. The front label is marketing; the supplement-facts panel is the useful part.

Evidence-based nutrient summaries

Vitamin D: established bone role, careful claims beyond it

Vitamin D helps the intestine absorb calcium and supports normal mineralisation of bone. Severe deficiency can cause osteomalacia in adults. That is the firm evidence base. Claims that vitamin D routinely prevents cancer, treats depression, improves fertility, supports weight loss or “balances hormones” go beyond established evidence (NIH ODS Vitamin D).

Vitamin D is relevant in Saudi Arabia because indoor living, intense heat, clothing coverage, skin pigmentation, limited natural food sources and variable fortification can reduce intake or skin production. These factors should be discussed without blame. Skin protection still matters. The American Academy of Dermatology does not recommend deliberate ultraviolet exposure or indoor tanning as a vitamin D strategy (AAD vitamin D statement).

Testing is most useful when there is an indication and the result will change care. The Council of Health Insurance lists risk-based indications and states that routine testing of asymptomatic people is not recommended (CHI vitamin D testing criteria). Thresholds also differ by purpose and authority, so avoid a universal “optimal” number. Evidence calibration: strong for calcium absorption and prevention or treatment of rickets and osteomalacia; condition-specific for deficiency treatment; mixed or negative for many marketed non-skeletal benefits.

Iron: a nutrient and a diagnostic clue

Iron supports haemoglobin and oxygen transport. Iron deficiency can exist before anaemia develops, but fatigue alone cannot identify it. Ferritin is the most useful single marker in many settings, yet inflammation can raise ferritin and conceal deficiency. Laboratories and guidelines also use different thresholds, so one online cut-off should not be applied to everyone (WHO ferritin guidance; BSG guideline).

The deeper question is why iron is low. Menstrual blood loss, pregnancy, low intake, frequent blood donation, coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease and gastrointestinal blood loss are among the possibilities. In a 2021 study of 390 pregnant women in Hail, anaemia prevalence was 34.1 per cent. Tea immediately after meals was associated with higher odds of anaemia, but the observational design cannot show that tea was the sole cause (BMC Public Health study).

Food supports prevention and recovery, but diagnosed iron-deficiency anaemia often needs medical treatment and cause investigation. Iron also has a narrow safety margin in overdose and must be kept away from children. Evidence calibration: strong for diagnosing deficiency with context-appropriate blood tests and treating confirmed deficiency; moderate and context-dependent for specific dosing schedules; insufficient for diagnosing from symptoms or promising hair regrowth.

Calcium: meet the target, preferably through food

Calcium supports bone structure, nerve signalling and muscle function. The body keeps blood calcium within a narrow range, which is why a serum calcium test does not tell you whether your diet supplies enough calcium (NIH ODS Calcium). Dietary review and bone-risk assessment answer different questions.

Milk, yogurt, calcium-set tofu, fortified drinks, sardines with bones and some greens can contribute. Absorption falls as the amount in a single dose increases, and supplemental calcium is generally absorbed best in portions of 500 mg or less. Calcium carbonate and calcium citrate differ in elemental calcium, dependence on stomach acid and gastrointestinal tolerance.

Evidence about supplements and cardiovascular or kidney-stone risk is nuanced. A professional position statement found moderate-quality evidence of no cardiovascular relationship within upper limits in generally healthy adults, while the NIH summary notes uncertainty and a possible kidney-stone risk with higher supplemental intake (Annals of Internal Medicine position statement; NIH ODS Calcium). That is a reason to fill dietary gaps thoughtfully, not to fear all calcium or assume every supplement is harmless.

Evidence calibration: strong for meeting age-appropriate intake and the role of calcium in bone; mixed for routine supplements as primary fracture prevention in otherwise healthy community-dwelling women; insufficient for routine K2 “calcium routing” claims.

Magnesium: abundant in food, overpromised online

Magnesium participates in hundreds of enzyme systems, but a long list of biological functions does not prove that a supplement treats every symptom. Nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grains and leafy vegetables provide magnesium. Symptomatic deficiency from low intake alone is uncommon in healthy people because the kidneys conserve it, while gastrointestinal disease, diabetes, alcohol dependence, older age and some medicines increase risk (NIH ODS Magnesium).

The usual serum magnesium test correlates poorly with total body stores because less than 1 per cent of body magnesium is in serum. That makes both universal testing and confident “optimal level” claims unreliable. Evidence for popular uses is also less certain than advertising suggests. A 2020 Cochrane review found no meaningful benefit for idiopathic or nocturnal cramps in older adults, and pregnancy-cramp studies were inconsistent and at high risk of bias (Cochrane review). A 2024 review of sleep and anxiety studies found mixed results in generally small trials (Cureus review).

Evidence calibration: strong for dietary requirements and recognised deficiency states; limited or mixed for sleep and anxiety; moderate-to-high certainty of little benefit for common idiopathic cramps in older adults.

Vitamin B12: protect the nervous system, test the right people

Vitamin B12 is needed for blood formation and neurological function. Deficiency can occur without anaemia or an enlarged red-cell pattern, so a normal blood count does not always exclude it. NICE recommends an initial B12 test when a person has at least one compatible sign or symptom and at least one risk factor, while allowing clinical judgement when symptoms exist without an obvious risk (NICE NG239).

Risk rises with vegan diets lacking fortified foods, autoimmune gastritis, coeliac disease, gastric or terminal ileal surgery, metformin, acid-suppressing medicines and recreational nitrous oxide. Total B12 or active B12 can be used first depending on the situation, with active B12 preferred in pregnancy under NICE guidance. Methylmalonic acid may help resolve an indeterminate result, but kidney function and age can affect it.

The safety reason to act promptly is neurological damage, which can become irreversible if diagnosis and treatment are delayed (NIH ODS Vitamin B12). Route of treatment depends on cause, severity, neurological involvement, absorption and adherence. B12 injections are not a general energy or weight-loss treatment for people without deficiency.

Evidence calibration: strong for targeted testing and replacement of confirmed deficiency; route depends on cause; no evidence for routine “energy shots” in people with adequate status.

Folate and folic acid: timing matters before pregnancy

Folate is the natural vitamin in foods; folic acid is the form used in many supplements and fortified foods. Dietary folate equivalents account for differences in absorption. For preventing neural tube defects, folic acid is the form with established evidence. The CDC states that folic acid is the only folate form shown in studies to help prevent these defects, including for people with common MTHFR variants (CDC).

For most women who could become pregnant, 400 micrograms daily is the simple preventive action. Starting before conception is essential. A 5 mg prescription is not “extra protection” for everyone; it is reserved for defined higher-risk situations and needs professional review. Routine MTHFR testing and automatic methylfolate substitution are not supported by the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics guideline (ACMG guideline).

High folic-acid intake can correct the anaemia of B12 deficiency without correcting neurological injury. That is why unexplained macrocytic anaemia or neurological symptoms should not be managed with folic acid alone. Evidence calibration: strong for folic acid before conception and in early pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects; strong against routine MTHFR testing for this purpose; no basis for self-selecting high prescription doses.

Omega-3: food guidance is clearer than most supplement claims

Omega-3 is a family of fats. ALA comes mainly from plant foods, while EPA and DHA are concentrated in seafood and some algae-derived products. The adult female AI of 1.1 g applies to ALA. There is no established RDA for EPA plus DHA, so the ALA target should not be converted into a fish-oil capsule dose (NIH ODS Omega-3).

For pregnancy, eating lower-mercury seafood is better supported than avoiding fish. A Cochrane review found omega-3 interventions reduced preterm birth in pooled trials, while also finding an increase in prolonged gestation and uncertainty for some maternal and infant outcomes (Cochrane). Product, amount, baseline intake and pregnancy risk all matter.

For cardiovascular prevention, ordinary fish-oil supplements should not be equated with prescription omega-3 medicines. The large VITAL trial did not significantly reduce major cardiovascular events with a 1 g daily supplement, while a high-dose prescription EPA product benefited a selected high-risk population (NIH ODS Omega-3). Higher doses can also raise atrial-fibrillation concerns in some groups.

Evidence calibration: strong for eating recommended lower-mercury seafood during pregnancy; high-quality evidence for some pregnancy outcomes; mixed or null for routine supplement prevention of major cardiovascular events; unsupported for “hormone balancing.”

What is different in Saudi Arabia?

Local context changes exposure, food availability, testing pathways and the questions women bring to care. It does not create a separate human biology or justify universal treatment.

Vitamin D is common, but prevalence studies need careful reading

A 2025 analysis of 22,335 people tested in the Riyadh Region between 2017 and 2021 reported that 67.3 per cent had a 25-hydroxyvitamin D result below 30 ng/mL; 69.9 per cent of those tested were female. Because this was a tested hospital and community sample, it should not be treated as a prevalence estimate for every woman in Saudi Arabia (Frontiers in Public Health).

A smaller study of 166 Riyadh women aged 30 to 65, conducted in 2015 and 2016, found 60.2 per cent below 20 ng/mL. The study also reported that vitamin D fortification was not mandatory and that some products labelled as fortified contained little or no vitamin D (Scientific Reports). These findings support thoughtful dietary review and risk-based care. They do not prove that every woman needs a blood test or high-dose treatment.

Heat, indoor life and clothing can limit sun-derived vitamin D

Outdoor time in Riyadh is shaped by heat, work, family routines and personal clothing choices. Skin pigmentation and age also affect vitamin D production. Discussing these factors should be practical and respectful. There is no reliable fixed number of minutes in the sun that works for every skin type, season, time of day, body area and UV index. Deliberately skipping sunscreen is not the answer.

Tea and iron need context, not prohibition

Tea is part of daily life for many families. Polyphenols can reduce non-heme iron absorption, and the Hail pregnancy study found an association between drinking tea immediately after meals and anaemia. You do not need to stop tea forever. If low iron is a concern, separating tea or coffee from an iron-rich meal or prescribed iron may be reasonable, while the cause of deficiency is assessed (Saudi Ministry of Health).

Social-media advice is common

A 2025 national survey of 1,652 Saudi adults reported that about 60 per cent named social media as their main source of vitamin information. It also found that 20.0 per cent used vitamin D, 18.1 per cent used B12 and 22.5 per cent used iron supplements, while most had never had the corresponding test (Nutrients). The survey describes reported behaviour; it does not tell us whether each supplement was appropriate.

Do you need a vitamin deficiency test?

A good test starts with a plausible condition and ends with an action. Broad screening can produce borderline results that do not explain symptoms, encourage unnecessary treatment and distract from other diagnoses.

Testing is more reasonable when

  • a clinician identifies a symptom or sign that fits a deficiency and a relevant risk factor;
  • you have heavy menstrual bleeding, suspected blood loss, pregnancy-related concerns or a previous abnormal blood count;
  • you have had bariatric or gastrointestinal surgery, or you have coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease or chronic malabsorption;
  • you follow a restrictive diet without reliable fortified foods or supplements;
  • you take a medicine known to alter absorption or metabolism;
  • you have kidney, liver, parathyroid, bone or other disease that changes interpretation;
  • a prior abnormal result is being monitored after a defined intervention.

The exact test must match the question. A full blood count and ferritin may begin an iron assessment, with transferrin saturation or inflammation markers added when needed. Total or active B12 may be appropriate for B12 risk, with methylmalonic acid in selected indeterminate cases. The correct vitamin D test is serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D, not the active 1,25-dihydroxy form for routine nutritional assessment.

Routine testing often does not help

The 2024 Endocrine Society guideline suggests against routine 25-hydroxyvitamin D testing in healthy adults, including during pregnancy, and against using routine testing solely because a person has dark complexion or obesity (Endocrine Society). Saudi CHI criteria also state that routine testing of asymptomatic people is not recommended.

Serum calcium does not measure dietary calcium adequacy. Serum magnesium correlates poorly with total-body stores. Omega-3 status is not routinely assessed and lacks established normal ranges (NIH ODS Calcium; Magnesium; Omega-3). Ordering these as a generic wellness panel may produce numbers without a clear clinical decision.

How to interpret a result responsibly

  1. Confirm the analyte, unit and laboratory reference range.
  2. Ask why the test was ordered and what condition it was meant to evaluate.
  3. Review medicines, supplements, recent illness, pregnancy and kidney or liver function that could alter interpretation.
  4. Look for the cause, not only the low value.
  5. Agree on treatment, monitoring and a stop or review point.
  6. Reassess if symptoms persist despite correction, because the nutrient may not have been the cause.

For vitamin D, methods differ and results can be falsely high or low. For ferritin, inflammation can produce a false sense of adequate iron stores. For B12, an indeterminate total level may need a functional marker and clinical context. One number rarely tells the whole story.

How to choose and use supplements more safely

Decide whether the product is prevention, gap-filling or treatment

These are different jobs. A standard folic-acid product before pregnancy is preventive. A low-dose multivitamin may fill small dietary gaps. Treating iron-deficiency anaemia or neurological B12 deficiency is medical care. Do not use the label “wellness” to blur that difference.

Add amounts from multivitamins, prenatals, single-nutrient products, fortified drinks, powders and medicines. Check the serving size and unit: vitamin D may use micrograms or IU, folate may use DFE, and the fish-oil amount on the front can be much larger than its EPA and DHA content.

Treat “no upper limit” carefully

No established UL does not mean unlimited use is beneficial. B12 has low known toxicity, but very high blood concentrations can be a marker of illness and should not become a target. Omega-3 products can affect clotting time and, at high amounts in selected cardiovascular populations, have been associated with atrial fibrillation. Vitamin K has no UL but can interfere with warfarin if intake changes abruptly.

Folic acid High amounts can obscure or complicate recognition of B12 deficiency; antiseizure medicines, methotrexate and sulfasalazine need clinician review.
Vitamin K Warfarin users need a consistent intake and coordination with the anticoagulation team.
Omega-3 Anticoagulants, planned surgery and a history or risk of atrial fibrillation deserve review, especially at high doses.
Vitamin B12 The key issue is usually finding the cause and choosing oral or injected treatment appropriately, not toxicity.

Be cautious with beauty, energy and hormone claims

“Hair,” “energy,” “fertility,” “detox” and “hormone balance” are marketing categories, not diagnoses. Biotin can interfere with laboratory tests and is not supported as a general treatment for hair shedding in people without a deficiency (Dermatology and Therapy review). Iron should not be taken for hair loss without confirming deficiency. Vitamin D and omega-3 supplements should not be sold as fertility treatments.

Food-first planning without perfection

A food-first approach is not a demand for a flawless diet. It means building meals that supply several nutrients together, using fortified foods deliberately and supplementing only where food cannot reliably meet the need.

Build meals that cover several needs

Combine a protein food, plant variety, a whole grain or familiar starch, and a calcium source. Lentil soup with lemon pairs plant iron with vitamin C. Sardines contribute protein, calcium and omega-3. Yogurt supplies calcium but may be better placed away from a prescribed iron dose if absorption is a concern.

Use labels where local fortification varies

Check the amount per serving rather than the word “fortified.” Vitamin D fortification is not mandatory in Saudi Arabia, and local research has found mismatch between some claims and measured content. Plant drinks also vary widely in calcium, vitamin D and B12. Shake fortified drinks when the label advises it because minerals can settle.

Know when food is not enough

Food cannot replace urgent treatment of severe anaemia or neurological B12 deficiency, or folic acid started before pregnancy. It may not correct deficiency quickly enough with ongoing blood loss or malabsorption. Medical treatment and cause investigation may be necessary.

When to seek urgent care

Nutrient concerns are usually handled through routine or prompt medical assessment, but some symptoms need urgent care rather than a supplement trial.

Seek emergency assessment for:

  • chest pain, fainting, severe breathlessness at rest or a very fast or irregular heartbeat;
  • major bleeding, vomiting blood, or black tarry stool with weakness, dizziness or collapse;
  • new severe weakness, inability to walk safely, rapidly worsening numbness, loss of balance, confusion, seizures or sudden visual change;
  • severe persistent vomiting, marked dehydration or reduced consciousness after taking supplements;
  • suspected iron overdose, especially in a child;
  • thoughts of suicide, intent to self-harm, psychosis, mania or inability to stay safe. Contact local emergency services and involve a trusted person immediately.

Persistent symptoms without these red flags still deserve assessment. Do not keep increasing doses because the first product did not help.

A focused conversation is more useful than asking for “all vitamin tests.” Consider taking this list:

  1. What are the most likely explanations for my concern besides a nutrient deficiency?
  2. Which risk factors in my history make a particular deficiency plausible?
  3. Which test would change the decision, and how should pregnancy, inflammation, kidney function or medicines affect interpretation?
  4. If a result is low, what cause needs investigation?
  5. Is this amount intended for prevention, dietary gap-filling or treatment?
  6. How long should I take it, what side effects should I watch for, and when should it be reviewed?
  7. Does it interact with my medicines, prenatal product, antacid, laxative or another supplement?
  8. Which food changes would help, and which are unlikely to be enough on their own?
  9. What should happen if the laboratory value improves but my symptoms do not?

Arrange care through an appropriate licensed healthcare service, and use emergency services for urgent symptoms.
